Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World, Mark Williams and Danny Penman (2011)

This is one of the best introductions to mindfulness for anyone wishing to get started with mindfulness practice on their own. This eight-week guide is based on the MBCT programme. There’s enough theory here to be motivating and inspiring, but not enough to get bogged down in. This is a clear and concise, no-nonsense, get-on-with-it guide – and will likely answer any doubts or misgivings you might have about mindfulness meditation. In the author’s own words

‘This is a book about how you can find peace and contentment in such troubled and frantic times as these. Or rather, this is a book about how you can rediscover them; for there are deep wellsprings of peace and contentment living inside us all, no matter how trapped and distraught we might feel.’

It comes with a CD, (there are some free meditations online), and there is fortunately also an app now for a one-off fee (for those of you for whom CDs are a relic of the past). The Audible version will of course have the meditations included.
